Main Street Bridge Replacement Columbus, Ohio City of Columbus The Main Street Bridge is an open spandrel barrel arch, built in the late 1930’s, and is listed on the National Historic Register as a historic structure; however, the bridge is in very poor condition. DLZ was chosen by the city of Columbus to conduct conceptual, preliminary, and final design of a replacement for the existing Main Street Bridge over the Scioto River in Downtown Columbus. The complex challenge seeks to design and engineer a functional, handsome, expertly crafted, inviting, pedestrian-friendly, distinctive, memorable, and an inspiring signature bridge, which will further establish the Downtown Reach of the Scioto Riverfront as the vibrant core of Columbus. DLZ listened to public opinion and outlook involvement on a historic, aesthetic, and technical level including presentations to the Public, Mayor’s Office, Historic Review Commission, Downtown Commission, and the Community Interest Task Force. |
