NEORSD Easterly Sewer Design Development
Cleveland, Ohio
Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) / Hatch-Mott-MacDonald (HMM)

DLZ provided drilling and subsurface investigation services for NEORSD as a subconsultant-drilling contractor to HMM. The alignment for the proposed Easterly tunneled sewer required both land and floating-plant drilling efforts.

A portion of the proposed alignment passes beneath Lake Erie off of the east side of the city of Cleveland. DLZ performed drilling and sampling from a barge on open portions of the lake, which presented several challenges as the alignment lay under unprotected areas beyond any breakwalls.

Continuous sampling was required through the deep sediments found in this area and rock coring advanced deep into the limestone bedrock. Lake depths exceeded 30 ft. at most borehole locations. In spite of inclement weather and rough seas, the assignment was completed within schedule and without incident.
