DWSD Water Main Replacement, CM-2012 Detroit, Michigan Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) When the National Football League announced the City of Detroit as hosts of Super Bowl XL, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) recognized that the existing water distribution system for the central business district - installed over 70 years ago - would need significant improvement to ensure uninterrupted service. Due to the project’s complexity, DWSD retained DLZ to address all facets of the replacement of over 53,000 feet of downtown distribution pipeline. Initial tasks entailed reviewing existing water main designs and managing the survey and design of the remaining footage. During construction, DLZ managed all facets of the project. We coordinated with various city departments and also coordinated with DWSD for valve closings, temporary shutdowns, bacteriological testing, and other operational and maintenance activities. DLZ prepared all of the maintenance of traffic plans associated with the project. These detailed plans were prepared for each specific construction task order and was permitted through the city’s Traffic Engineering Department. |
